PEPPOL Infrastructure Open for Early Adopters
Version 0.8 of the PEPPOL infrastructure (Pan European Public Procurement) has been released on 1 May 2009. The release includes a simple demonstrator business application in addition to open source software libraries and other components.
The PEPPOL Infrastructure allows Service Providers, governments and large corporations to exchange business documents between their respective users. Small and medium-sized companies and public sector organisations that do not have the capabilities to connect directly to the PEPPOL Infrastructure must sign up with a Service Provider connected to the PEPPOL Infrastructure.
It is strongly recommended that a standardised interface be used for connecting to a Service Provider. The PEPPOL project offers the “PEPPOL lightweight profile” as such a standardised interface.
Contents of the 0.8 release
The release contains the following components:
- A software toolkit implementing the “PEPPOL Full profile” needed in order to establish an access point (connection) to the PEPPOL infrastructure.
- A software toolkit implementing the “PEPPOL Lightweight profile”. This toolkit is used to implement an optional interface between an access point and a connected ERP system or a simpler business application.
- A reference implementation of a very simple business application capable of creating and receiving orders or invoices. This reference implementation is called the “PEPPOL Demonstrator”. The PEPPOL Demonstrator implements the “PEPPOL Lightweight Profile” using the supplied toolkit.
- A REST-proxy which can be set up in front of a UDDI registry. The open source UDDI registry,OpenUDDI, can be used as service registry. The REST-proxy implements the PEPPOL registry specification.
- A software client library for the Registry Locator Service.
- A software client library for the Service Registry.
